La región de Oaxaca es mundialmente reconocida por sus hermosos tapetes de lana hechos a mano. Los colores utilizados son naturales, aunque no tan brillantes como los sintéticos, pero más duraderos. Uno de los principales colorantes utilizados, se obtiene de la cochinilla, gusano que se alimenta del nopal que crece en México. Especialistas en la materia le han dado preferencia a este tipo de artesanía por la belleza de sus matices y su permanencia comprobada a lo largo de los siglos.

Oaxaca is world-renowned for its beautiful woolen rugs. Most colors are natural dyes which are not as brilliant as synthetic dyes, but last longer. One of the main colorants used is obtained through “the cochineal bug”, which one comes from “the coccus cacti”, thus named because it feeds on the nopal that grows in Mexico. Due to the beautiful shades of the rugs and their proven durability over the centuries have given them preference with specialists and the general public.
